How to tell a call or voice note may be a clone
A cloned voice can sound right and still give itself away through what it asks for. The warning signs are almost always in the request, not in the sound.
- It is urgent and asks for money, codes or passwords.
- It asks you to keep it secret or not to call anyone back.
- It comes from a new number or a new account.
- It pushes an unusual way to pay, such as gift cards or a transfer to an unknown account.
- It avoids questions only the real person could answer.
If any of these appear, hang up and call back on a number you already know. A real person will understand.
